Public transportation
Only disabled people with a valid German token in their disabled people pass can use all services of the MVV (U-Bahn (subway) and S-Bahn (suburban train), tram (streetcar) and bus) for free.
Here is an overview of the suburban trains, metro and regional trains: Step-free access by tram and expressbus and Step-free access within the MVV network with indications on the barrier free accessibility, which can be found in the MVV-leaflet „Barrierefreier Zugang“. Please watch the height indications, which can vary between the transportation device and the platform: for example at Harthof (2-7 cm), Scheidplatz (8-13 cm) or Riem (24-30 cm). Assistance with boarding or disembarking is provided by the train driver if necessary, so use the first door behind the driver.
You can order an overview of the U-Bahn and S-Bahn networks also in braille: mediablis, In den Kirschen 1, 80992 München, phone +49 (0) 89 17905-283, E-mail www.mediablis-bayern.de -> Kontakt.
The exit side of the U- and S-Bahn is usually on the left. In case of deviation, it is announced and displayed in the suburban trains and the newer subways.
At underground stations with a greater difference in height between the platform and the carriage floor, you will find a yellow ramp at the front of the platform from which you can board more easily at the 1st door.
Busses and trams are equipped with folding ramps and/or elevating platforms. Both have a max. weight of 300 kg, however, only approved for wheelchairs, not for walkers or other walking aids!
At platforms and accesses towards the U-Bahn stations as much as at S-Bahn stations, bus and streetcar stations you will find tactile detectible strips of ribbed slabs for blind and sight impaired passengers.
Site plans of Munich's U- and S-Bahn stations can be found here.
